Didn't even occur to me the CT6 was from 2015...

Honestly, I dig anything Cadillac is making over any of its competition these days.  I know that may be a hot take to some.

The interiors still have a ways to go, but the driving dynamics are world class.

People say that, but when I sat in a CT-6, I didn’t see any deficiency compared to the S-class next to it, and it felt way better than any BMW I’ve been in.

The CT6 is very nice - way ahead of the CTS and ATS. I’m not a fan of Cadillac’s shifter, but at the same time, I don’t like M-B’s or BMW’s, either, so that’s a wash.

I wouldn’t put it with the S-Class though - or even the E-Class, personally.  But yeah, the CT6 is better than a 3 series, maybe on par with the brand new 5 series.  A lot of that is personal taste, of course.

I know a lot of people knock Caddy for using lacquered black trim. But, I think it looks as good on that dash as it does on a Steinway.

I’m planning to use some of my vacation to visit some dealers and try out a few cars in this class.  If I can make that happen, I plan to post my observations.

I agree, I rented an ats while I was at the Moto GP in Austin and I noticed the gauge cluster for about five minutes.  The driving dynamics impression lasted way longer.

I saw a test mule camo’d up yesterday on my way home.  It looks mean.  Just a bit lower and a bit more side skirt, made it look really nice.

The gauge cluster is the only let down in the interior appearance.  I’m still shocked they never updated it.

Ooh!  Sounds like a fun vacation!!  I kinda got burned out from all the cars I test drove the first 5 months of the year, but there’s still a few I’d like to drive.

It’s more fun sometimes when you don’t have to buy one right away because you’re running out of time to get a new one, and you have to figure out how to pay for it.

Kinja'd!!! WilliamsSW > Chariotoflove

Kinja'd!!!1

Very much - that’s why I did the 5 month head start on this last one.  Took all the pressure off, just led me to give my contact info to about 500 car sales people.  *Most* of them have gone away now, finally.

Kinja'd!!!1

See, I think I’ll plan ahead with the next one, and then suddenly I’m confronted with a catastrophic repair that isn’t worth it to pay for, and I’m back out on the lots. Ugh.

For my wife’s cars, it was different . When we arrived in Dallas, she needed a car because we’d sold her Corolla back in MI, but it wasn’t that urgent.  But then, her Solara started losing a cylinder.  Well, we didn’t want to fix that, and it wasn’t an emergency or anything, but it was the push she needed to move up to her Sedona.

Yeah, I hear you. That’s how I ended up getting rid of my Sunbird- the repairs just got overwhelming so I dumped it.

I’ve been pretty lucky with cars since though. I’ve actually been driving the Pathfinder the last few days- cam position sensor was wonky, with those replaced the dumb thing is mechanically fine now. I’ve been hauling Mulch back from Home Depot with it. Fun times.

And that’s kind of the problem. Each new Cadillac is way better than the one before, and comes closer to matching Mercedes and, say, Lexus, but, its a moving target and the competition keeps improving, too, so the gap never quite closes.

Oh yeah, ‘tis the season. My daughter and I hauled 30 4 0 lb bags of top soil and spread it in the raised bed in the back. Proving that minivans can do truck things too.

Kinja'd!!! WilliamsSW > Chariotoflove
07/13/2018 at 20:05

Kinja'd!!!1

Minivans, SUVS, who needs a pickup truck?

I haul 15 bags at a time - each one 2 cubic feet, probably 40 lb or so I’d guess.

I forgot how much I need- I’ve already made 3 trips, and probably have 3- 4 more to go. Enough that getting it delivered makes financial sense. Ugh.

Could have sworn it was only 2 trips last year...

Yep - and between Audi, BMW, Mercedes and Lexus, one of them is always leapfrogging the others, and Cadillac is chasing.

Kinja'd!!! Chariotoflove > WilliamsSW
07/13/2018 at 20:13

Kinja'd!!!1

I have this perverse thing about doing myself anyway just to prove I can.

Who needs a pickup? People who use it for daily serious work, like farmers, construction, trades people. Folks who don’t bother with shit like chrome trim or  fancy leather interiors that belong in a luxury car, because they remember what a truck is made for.

But that sounded a little judgmental, so better scratch that.

Kinja'd!!!0

Yes, exclusive to Cadillac. But what I mean is that to get the engine you don’t have to go all the way up to the V-Sport, it’s an option on the base car too. With a different tuning of course.

Kinja'd!!! 404 - User No Longer Available > WilliamsSW

Kinja'd!!!1

I don’t mind if they further cheapen and make the interior more utilitarian. That would’ve been a great formula for a Pontiac for bringing in volume money, then reinvesting in a nicer interior for Cadillac.

Kinja'd!!! WilliamsSW > 404 - User No Longer Available
07/13/2018 at 21:38

Kinja'd!!!0

That would be fine, as long as it wasn’t a Cadillac. Pontiac would have been perfect for that, RIP.

Kinja'd!!! WilliamsSW > Chariotoflove

Kinja'd!!!1

I could see that - I have the time now, so I don’t mind doing it. Thing is, if I get 5 yards of mulch delivered, it’s gonna block the driveway til I get it moved into the beds. By getting it from HD, I can do a bit here and there and take a week to get it done.

Oh, I like pickup trucks - but I’m using that SUV as if it were a pickup.  I think the 2nd row of seats has been folded down for 2 years now.

Huh, I thought they only offered the v6, v6 twin turbo and i4 on the standard ct6.  Where do you see the V8 being offered on the standard models?

https://ca.finance.yahoo.com/news/2019-cadillac-ct6-v-sport-161500161.html

The twin-turbo 4.2-liter V-8 is exclusive to Cadillac. Built from a blank slate with knowledge gained from General Motors’ racing programs, the new engine makes 550 horsepower at 5700 rpm and 627 lb-ft of torque from 3200 to 4000 rpm. A “hot V” setup, which puts the turbochargers atop the block between the heads, aims to minimize turbo lag while making the engine more compact. We dive into the details of the new powerplant at length here . The forced-induction V-8 is paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive. ( The new engine also will be available on non–V-Sport models, where it will have 500 horsepower and 553 lb-ft. )

I’m curious if it’ll have dual injection (pi and di) for reduced carbon buildup. If not, it’s nothing a little water meth can’t take care of.

Or maybe just give it a good Italian tuneup once in a while.

Just need to get the engine hot enough, worked well when I was clearing out my F30 when I first got it from the dealer. 5-years old with 43k kms on the clock...I’m sure the previous owner  never drove it hard which is actually bad for Turbo DI cars.

There’s no real detergent to clean it off , and the intake tract doesn’t get hot enough to break down the carbon.
